Ideal House Projection Study 2

This illustrates a light sensor, arduino, processing interface.  The light sensor causes the images on the computer screen to rotate through either forward or backwards, creating an ambiguous color.

The code for this is straightforward, but took some time to trouble shoot and debug.

Here are two renderings from my testing of a virtual sun.  This will help me simulate "day" in my dark night box.

Surface and Light Explorations

Here are my investigations into surface shape and light.  Ideally, these studies will help me understand how lighting can change the use or experience of the space, aiding my "ambiguous" surface.

Review #2 Reactions

My second review provided me with some valuable advice, with these directions to work towards:

1.  What is the primary relationship set up between inside and outside of the house? What is ambiguity working towards here?

2.  What is the surface made of?

3.  How do you take advantage of people's interest in large scale making/a section model?

4. Is the skin like a banana, orange or a strawberry?

5.  How does it play with ambiguity/topology?

6. What is the thickness of the shell? Does the surface accentuate or reinforce this?

7. How do you use light (what is the different between rounded edges and meeting angles?)

8.  Is it like a worm with an apple?

Ambiguous Lights: Ideal House Protoype I

This is my first true prototype for my ambiguous surface.  I am exploring colored light and its ability to blend, particularly using red and yellow leds.  My next iteration will take into account the shape of the surface.  Furthermore, I am aiming for it to react to distance and to speed of motion.   It could start as a yellow color then fade to red if continuously interrupted.

Smart Surfaces: Making Progress

Today was a good day for smart surfaces.  I spent about two hours make this mockup model (arms move up and down), which was useful as a discussion point at our group meeting, where we produced the second model.  Also during this we charretted ideas for a the full scale prototype.

For my ideal house project, I am exploring ambiguity through the use of light, particularly the mixing of yellow and red and varying shades in between.
